The Employee Health Nurse Practitioner is a NP who is the lead clinical professional supporting our client’s internal employee health, wellness, and safety. The Employee Health NP coordinates the delivery of occupational health and wellness care, workers' compensation cases, and disability in conjunction with other clinical staff in Employee Health, and other staff in Human Resources. The NP will provide support and guidance to the Compensation, Benefits and Employee Health Director to achieve the department's service objectives and act as the primary on-site clinical resources for the Employee Health Clinic.
The Employee Health NP provides direct care or referral to appropriate health care providers. May prescribe medications and therapeutics, order diagnostics, interpret test results and refer internal employees to specialists as appropriate. Responsibilities also include new employee health assessment and drug testing, annual employee assessments, and patient care.
The Employee Health NP also assists in management of compensation injuries, case management, return to work program facilitation, treatment plan monitoring and follow-up paperwork from appropriate sites and providers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and delivers health services to ill or injured employees related to workers’ compensation, medical first response, return-to-work and disability programs, and the full range of services provided through the Employee Health Clinic
- Provides guidance to the occupational health testing and surveillance, and employee wellness initiatives
- Provides direct clinical care as needed and refers to appropriate external services providers
- Works closely with nursing management, nurse educators, Human Resources and others in the identification and correction of risks and maintaining compliance with various federal and state regulations
- Provides clinical and organizational leadership for special programs and health activities including, but not limited to, seasonal influenza campaign, blood collection drives and health/wellness fairs
- Works closely with collaborating physician to provide ongoing comprehensive primary and episodic care, and develop/ review procedures, documentation protocols for delivery of on-site medical care to employees
- Assists staff in managing employee care issues; manages acute/emergency situations as necessary; provides basic first aid and emergency assessment to employees with appropriate triage and referral.
- May perform and document new hire physical exams and annual reassessment exams
- May develop treatment plan in cooperation with employee and ensures proper follow up
- Works in collaboration with other healthcare providers to provide coordination of services when appropriate; refers to contracted specialty providers when appropriate
- Continuously reviews status and utilization reports; recommends procedural modification and enhancements as appropriate
- Acts as a role model, educator and resource by providing provides clinical knowledge and expertise to other internal staff professionals regarding employee health risks, OSHA matters, risk prevention and worker’s compensation matters
- Participates in quality improvement activities; actively participates in task forces/committees as appropriate; reviews QA department chart audits, etc. and works collaboratively in data collection, development of plans of action, etc. when necessary
- Participates in academic and continuing education workshops, conferences and seminars to update knowledge. Shares knowledge within the Employee Health department and across the organization as appropriate
- Directs and follows the processes for complete and accurate documentation in employee records and follow up on employee health matters, compensation injuries and incidents. Ensures communication with Human Resources contacts regarding worker’s compensation status of employees and volunteers is timely and ongoing
- Ensures employee medical records are complete, accurate, and compliant with all regulatory requirements, including pre- and annual physicals, TB and flu shots, and other DOH record keeping requirements
- Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS
- Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse
- National certification as an ANP highly desirable
- Two to three years’ experience in clinical nursing including one year of occupational medicine
- Current DEA number
- Sound clinical judgment skills and best practice nursing standards
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, disability and industrial wellness programs as well as worker’s compensation processes, practices and regulations
- Knowledge of OSHA compliance requirements and other safety and health standards
- Ability to be self-directed and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage complex medical diagnoses
